How to Build Trust in Your Marketplace
I know a guy whose Mom won’t eat at any restaurant unless it’s an open kitchen.
(Meaning, you can see the chefs preparing the food…)
She thinks they might spit in her meal.
But when she can see what’s going on, she feels safer eating there.
Same thing happens in your business.
Your customers?
They’re like old mama.
They want to see what’s happening in the kitchen.
Trust is your #1 hurdle when selling...
Especially when you’re running an online business. Because old mama can’t walk up to the chef and watch him cook…
There’s no physical proximity between the prospect and the seller.
Which makes it harder for your prospect to pick up on all the non-verbal cues that humans use to signal trust:
- Eye contact
- Body language
- Nodding in agreement
- Body posture
- Vocal tonality
- etc.
People like old mama trust you more when they’re in your presence.
Because there’s a lot being said without words. And that builds trust.
So what can we do to increase trust when running an online business?
Well, besides being a good person and not spitting in old mamas food…
You can add more ways to deliver your message and communicate with your prospect or client.
For example…
If you have a text based sales page that you’re trying to send cold traffic to…
That’s like old mama walking into a closed kitchen restaurant. She ain’t gonna like it.
But, if you have a text based sales page that ALSO includes a video of your smug face talking to the camera…
It allows old mama to see you. And hear you. And watch you.
She can pick up on more of the non-verbal cues. And decide if she likes and trusts you, or if you’re a spitter.
This is why people do sales calls. And even better, zoom sales calls.
It builds more trust.
So if your conversion rates are down, and you’re wondering why, maybe look at how you’re presenting yourself in the marketplace.
Are you an open kitchen restaurant?
Would old mama trust you?
Happy Monday.
