I’m scared to write this…

I just pulled over at a small rest stop to write this…

I’m on an extended van trip right now and am currently in Whistler, Canada.

 
There’s a river to my left, and a big mountain to my right.

 
And trees. A lot of trees.

 
But that’s not why I’m writing to you today...

 
I’m writing this because I cannot NOT write this.

 
I pulled over because this had to get out of me and into your inbox.

 
And before I explain why I’m scared to write this, I should probably introduce myself (in case you landed on this here email list and don’t remember how…)

 
My name is Adam Folker.

 
I am a former professional basketball player who retired and started a business online helping other basketball players improve their game.

 
That was 12 years ago.

 
Since then I’ve scaled that business making multiple 7 figures while traveling the world and exploring other curiosities.

 
Along the way I’ve become very interested in the overlap between philosophy and business… or how to start a business and use it as a vehicle to express yourself and create the life you want to live.

 
Now here’s why I’m scared to write this…

 
I don’t know what I’m doing.

 
And by writing this email and hitting send - I’m ‘doing it’ anyways.

 
I pulled over to this side of the road to type this because I am feeling a little constipated with creative expression and needed to get it out.

 
(Sorry for the analogy…)

 
It’s kind of like a baby that is needing to be born… and resisting it is now taking more effort than letting it flow.

 
Know what I mean?

 
Either way, it feels good to finally slap these keys and type this to you…

 
So, where do we go from here?

 
Well, I’m going to make a sandwich and go hike up a mountain.

 
If I make it back down in one piece, I’ll be in your inbox again with more insights on the path of creative entrepreneurship and it’s overlap with practical philosophy.

 
Here’s what’s on the upcoming menu:

 
Practical Philosophy: Most philosophy is completely impractical… reading what some old guy wrote hundreds of years ago is usually about as useful as that shake weight thing they tried to sell us on tv a few years back… (remember that?)

 
I’m more interested in what we can apply today to create a life that you actually want to live… (not one that others tell you to live…)

 
Creative Entrepreneurship: I became rather disenchanted with the business guru’s many years ago… and being in the online business arena for over a decade I’ve seen them come and go from the space faster than a fart in a fan factory… proving that the get-rich-quick schemes just aren’t sustainable.

 
Starting and scaling an online business can be a great path to creating a life of freedom (both internal and external).

 
You can make a great living while overcoming your internal resistance along the way.

 
(For example - and as silly as it sounds… the fear I had to overcome to send this email to you without having it all figured out yet.)
