I swear I’d never do this

I found myself standing at the edge of a cliff, the wind whipping through my hair, heart pounding in my chest…

The promise I made to myself echoed in my mind…

But here I was, contemplating the unthinkable…

“Do I really do this..?”

Before I could second guess myself - I pulled out my phone and pushed send.

Immediately, I felt a wave of relief wash over me, mixed with a tinge of fear.

There was no turning back now.

I made my decision.

I sent the first newsletter and opened pandoras box - teaching people how to start and scale a business online.

Something I swore I’d never do.

But here we are…

Knee deep in the muck of the internet, wading deeper into what it means to make money online for yourself through creative entrepreneurship.

Why was I so hesitant?

Well, aside from the Lamborghini toting 20 year olds who seem to have cornered the market…

The industry seemed to be chock full of gurus selling courses teaching others how to sell courses on how to teach others how to sell courses…

…All without having made any real money selling anything but courses on how to sell courses.

Seems like a race to the bottom, no?

Maybe.

But the more I ignored the last decade of my life, building and scaling an online basketball training business and selling millions of dollars of products in the process, the more it felt like a large part of my life was being left out.

And in an attempt to follow my own advice on living a life of meaning and purpose…

It (finally) makes sense to come out of the creative closet - and hit publish on some of the things I’ve learned along the way.

Which brings me to today’s lesson….

What part of your story are you leaving out?

Whenever I talk with people looking to start an online business, I always point them backwards…

To look at their life experiences and identify what challenges they’ve faced and overcome.

➝ Been through a bad breakup?

➝ Perfected a family recipe for the best sourdough bread?

➝ Traversed a challenging fitness journey?

Whatever it is… you’ve overcome some challenge in your life.

And no matter how “small” or “pointless” it might seem…

I can almost guarantee there are other people out there who are experiencing the same challenge you once faced who could really use your help right now.

There is no substitute for real life experience.

And if you’re alive, you have life experience.

I once knew a guy many years ago who struggled for years to grow nice tulip flowers in his garden.

Once he finally figured it out, he posted the solution on his blog.

And consistently sold over a million dollars of his online tulip growing course.

Which gave him the freedom to quit his job and spend more time with his two young sons.

So, I guess the point here is…

Sometimes it takes looking backwards to go forwards.

And when you do - you can uncover your very own unique blueprint to living a fulfilling and meaningful life by helping others.

Okay. I’ve gotta stop here. This email is getting long (sorry).
